Praised by Penelope Ward as “a unique story line with multiple layers to it,” Sarah Robinson’s Saving a Legend goes another round with the brooding Kavanagh brothers: MMA fighters who won’t call it quits in the ring, or in romance.

His family’s gym has produced a roster of mixed martial arts legends, but so far Kieran Kavanagh hasn’t followed in their footsteps. After a brawl lands him in jail, Kieran is assigned to work at a center for at-risk youth. Though given a second chance, Kieran’s simply going through the motions—until he meets one very special kid, Shea Doherty, and falls hard for her very beautiful, very grown-up big sister, Fiona. The trouble is, Kieran’s best opening moves are getting him nowhere fast.

Fiona Doherty has too many responsibilities to fool around, especially now that she has custody of Shea. Sure, she’d love to find a devoted partner. But she won’t jeopardize her sister’s happiness—or risk revealing her tortured past—on a love-’em-and-leave-’em type of guy like Kieran . . . so it’s up to him to prove her wrong. As Fiona spends more time with Kieran, she starts to see a softer side of the reckless warrior. Now she must admit that when it comes to the possibility of real love, well . . . there’s a fighting chance.

Review

I've always been a fan of MMA books for some reason, I don't know if its the grit, the fight, or what but I just love them. This series by Sarah Robinson is another winning addition to such a genre.

The Kavanagh boys have a way of pulling you in and keeping you rooted in their story, watching as it all unfolds and they fight to win the most important things in their lives, futures.  I loved Keiran from the start, he's not a perfect man, who is, but he recognizes the things he did in his past and what he wants to do in his future.  Once he comes face to face with what/who he really wants - that was it - he was all in, even when she wasn't.

Fiona took a bit longer for me to understand, she's had past struggles, she's hiding things and has fears and more than anything in the world, she wanted her sister to come first.   It would be easy to get annoyed by her stand-offish behavior if it wasn't for the fact she was trying to do right by her sister who she was responsible for.  I can't say it didn't bother me to watch her push Kieran away and attempt to fight her feelings, but I think as a mom, I understood that about her - that she didn't want to take risks that could have a fallout that affected not just herself alone.

I loved Shea so much, she added something special to the story and I loved how real the author made her.  I also enjoyed more glimpses into the Kavanagh's and getting to see more of them.

Saving a Legend was a wonderful book that gave us several characters that came to life and delivered an amazing story that not only pulled me in, but held me captivated.  I look forward to reading more about all of the Kavanagh's as the rest of them fall and bring us their stories.
