Blurb:
One accident - a freaking car crash.
That’s all it took to send my brother’s and my life into a tailspin with no end in sight. I was going to be something. I was going to be the best. I had the Olympics in my sights. And it all went to shit in one flash. Brayden wasn’t ready to raise a younger sister when I was thrown into his lap. He had his life and everything going for him. Thankfully, he was still drafted to his dream hockey team. The same one dad played for when we were growing up.
It took time, but I started to get better, started to open up, started skating and even dating again. I even thought I found the perfect guy for me.
Isn’t it funny how guys hit on you when they know you’re not available, but when you’re single they won’t give you the freaking time of day? I guess the game is more fun that way. And for the captain of my brother’s team, that’s exactly what I was. A hat trick is three goals in hockey. Some say three is a crowd and they might be right.
I was Gavin Hayes' unobtainable goal.

REVIEW

Hat Trick was an interesting take on the sports romance story.  It wasn't at all like the typical story and that made it all the better.

Gavin may appear to have it all, and be happy with his life, but in reality, he doesn't. He's been hurt, he has his own family issues, and he needs someone to even him out.  So when he sees his teammates little sister, he can't help but to be intrigued by the feelings that pull him towards her.

Myla has had her share of bad times, an accident that took away her chances at the Olympics and left her without a mother. She's healing well, and being cared for by her big Brother Brayden, but he's got his own life as a hockey star.

Brayden loves his little sister, he's taken care of her, because she was all he had left, but also because he wouldn't have wanted anything else for her. So there's a little tension between the two when he knows she's got her sights set on his Captain and teammate, Gavin.

Myla never thought she'd find in Gavin something serious, but then Myla doesn't know the real Gavin until they get to know each other. I loved their interactions, the way Gavin felt compelled to protect her even without knowing her well.

Hat Trick took us on a journey for these characters, one of discovering themselves and who they were without the heaviness from other's expectations.  Gavin knows that the type of women his mother has been shoving at him are not what he wants long term, he doesn't want fake, he wants someone he can partner with fully, someone who is his perfect match and he unexpectedly finds that in Myla.

Their relationship is quick to develop, but that doesn't make it come off as anything less than real and fulfilling.  They share a deep connection and powerful chemistry, and more than that, they get each other.

I went into Hat Trick expecting your typical bad boy hockey player falling for the good girl, and though there are pieces of that within the story, it was way different.
