Synopsis
Vince DaMarco always liked Cassie, the shy waitress who works at the restaurant that serves as a front for his mob boss uncle. Unfortunately, she witnesses a back alley hit, and while fleeing, she’s struck by a truck. Now she’s at the top of the hit list. Desperate to stop anyone who’d draw out Cassie’s death, Vince volunteers to take care of it. Cassie Dalton has no recollection of her accident, but she’s told she’s lucky to be alive. A few years are missing from her memory, and the unsettling feeling that something isn’t right—along with the creepy sensation that she’s being watched—won’t go away. Vince shows up right when Cassie needs him most. In a world of confusion, the rugged stranger is the one thing that makes sense. But little does she know, she’s found refuge in the arms of the very man who’s been sent to kill her.

Review
Taking Care of the Target was a thrilling story that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Cassie's finding her groove again after losing her father, she's in school working towards a future career and working as a waitress as well to keep up with paying her bills.  When she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, namely witnessing a murder, she finds herself in serious danger - but then promptly forgets about it when she's hit by a truck.
Vince always liked Cassie, and if he didn't have to deal with his screwed up family and the ties that connect him to their questionable practices, he'd have probably asked her out.  But when she witnesses a criminal act and his family needs to be sure to quiet her, Vince finds himself volunteering for the job, he tells himself its so that he can ensure it's a quick painless death, but really there's more to it then that.
I was pulled into the story from the first moment, sucked into the swirling danger and connection between these two people. As I read, I wondered what tactics Vince would use next to keep his uncle off the scent of his real reasoning for wanting this task and also I kept waiting for Cassie to remember what happened before the accident.
I really liked the angle of the bad guy, the hitman doing all he could to NOT actually kill his target.  It was curious how things would work out for both of them.   As their friendship grows, so does the deeper connection between them, calling into question just how this situation is going to last, how things can ever work out.
Taking Care of the Target is the perfect blend of drama, suspense, danger, and steam. The characters were likable and thorougly sucked me into the story.
